The purpose of breeding in general is to promote and improve the breed, in particular to accentuate the character of the breed, as well as market desires. In the 80’s, it was the push to produce a sound BLUE NOSE dog. In the 90’s, a more BULLY STYLE dog. In the 2000’s, a more COMPACT dog. All of this on the heels of the 1970’s drive for an athletic RED NOSE dog, in respect to the history prior to the 70’s, and the last 50 years of developing specific standards and phenotype.
